Displaying Sociological Imagination is an assessment of ideas, concepts, and ways of thinking presented in your Introduction to Sociology course. Your teacher is cooperating with other sociology faculty in administering this assessment in most Sociology courses.

Displaying Sociological Imagination is a two-step process:

(1) Watch the video clip, or read the article assigned by your instructor.

(2) Write a paragraph response to each of the four questions printed below. Use terms, ideas, concepts, and theories from your sociological studies in order to demonstrate the sociological perspective.

Questions: (Each of the questions should be followed by enough blank lined-space to allow a student to write a paragraph of response.)

1. Summarize and explain the issue(es) presented in the article or video using sociological concepts and ideas. Another way to look at this question is to imagine that you are explaining to a friend what is sociologically happening in this article or video clip.

2. Label, categorize, and/or describe specific events and/or interactions in the video or article using sociological concepts and terms. Use concepts and/or terms which are most relevant to specific parts of the material.

3.     Use one sociological theory to explain and analyze the processes, forces, dynamics and/or sociological systems presented in the video or article. Use sociological theory to explain the issue(s) presented in this material.

4.      Present an alternative explanation of the issue using different sociological theory(ies) and ideas. What would other theorists say?
